Unify is an independent, student-built tool for planning university courses. This page explains what information it collects, how that information is used and stored, and the choices you have. By using Unify you also agree to our Terms of Service. Questions can go to getunifyapp@gmail.com.
Using Unify without an account
You can browse the catalog, grade data, and reviews and build a plan without signing in. In that case your selections, such as your school, major, and completed courses, are stored only in your own browser and are not sent to us.
Information we collect
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile photo, and a unique account identifier through Firebase Authentication. We use these to recognize your account and show who is signed in.
- Your plan. The school, college, major and minor selections, year, intended semester, completed courses, and general-education progress you enter. This is saved in your browser and, when you are signed in, in our database so it follows you across devices.
- Reviews you write. The ratings, written comments, and the course, professor, semester, and grade you choose to include. Reviews are shown publicly to other users without your name attached. They stay linked to your account so you can edit them and so each person can post at most one review per course and professor. Reviews are pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous: each stored review carries an internal account identifier, so reviews written from the same account can be linked to each other by someone reading the underlying database. Your name, email address, and photo are never part of the public record.
How information is stored
Accounts and saved data are handled by Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) running on Google Cloud, and are subject to Google's privacy terms. Reviews are readable by anyone, but only you can create or change your own, which is enforced by server-side security rules.
Cookies and local storage
Unify saves your plan and preferences in your browser's local storage so they are there when you return on the same device. Firebase Authentication may set cookies or tokens to keep you signed in. Unify does not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies. Clearing your browser storage removes the locally saved data on that device.
What we do not do
Unify does not show third-party advertising, does not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and does not sell your information. To understand how the site is used, Unify keeps simple first-party, aggregate counts — anonymous, cookieless page-view tallies and basic account activity such as when an account was created and last active. These counts are not tied to advertising and are never shared or sold.
Your choices and data deletion
You can sign out at any time from your profile. To delete your account data, including your saved plan and any reviews you have written, email getunifyapp@gmail.com and we will remove it.
Children's privacy
Unify is intended for college students and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, email getunifyapp@gmail.com and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
